Paging Dr. Blog
Parents raise your children to be bloggers ! This statement might catch a lot of parents off guard but blogging can be equally profitable, all the while retaining the personal rewards. Although not all blogs are the same and some don’t even generate profits there are certain instances where the monetary gains match the personal satisfaction of the blogger. It was the latter case which enabled Arnold Kim to leave his job in order to maintain his website MacRumors.com. Did I forget to mention he was a Doctor and had invested $200,000 in his education? It is not the most talked about transition, from Doctor to blogger but it underscores how new media has evolved. Dr Kim’s website MacRumors.com caters to all Apple admirers over the world, enabling them to converse about various mac rumors and facts. It is this large community of Mac lovers that have catapulted Macrumors into stardom. This influx of traffic has made MacRumors the 2nd most valueable blog. Other blogs like Ars Technica and PaidContent were in fact sold for millions. Not to be outdone MacRumors continues to draw more than 4 million visitors per month. This has not gone unnoticed by companies like Google, Verizon and CDW. The profits from advertising and product sales commission made it easier for Dr. Kim to walk away from his six figure income as a doctor but it also gave him more time to spend with his 14 month old daughter. So in conclusion if your child is not sure what they want to be, remember all you need is a blog and a dream.
